Manny:

Everyone at WDNA would like to thank you and your associates for the services you've provided to the Haitian and Creole speaking community for close to two decades. You've made a difference in the lives of your listeners. And the influence of your particular style, mix of music and news, and overall professionalism can be heard in all Creole language radio in the market today.

With the new year comes new opportunities, and there are only so many hours in the broadcast day. Regretfully, in order to pursue new programming initiatives on the weekend, WDNA will have to discontinue over-the-air broadcasts of Antenna 88, effective after the show Sunday, February 4th.

However, because the station would like to maintain a bridge to the Haitian community via other channels, as well as continue to give you the opportunity to reach it, we propose that you produce Antenna 88 as an "on demand" internet broadcast. This two hour broadcast would be available for a full week on our website for anyone to listen to at their leisure. You and your team could continue to come in on Sundays, if you wish, to record in the production room. Or, select another day that suits you. We'd be happy to continue to offer CD copies of the program to you as well.

Another avenue for continued involvement with WDNA would be a weekly 5 minute commentary feature to be aired in the 4:00p-4:05p block on Sundays. You'd have full use of our production facilities for creation of the feature as well.

Again, thanks for your dedication. I hope you'll take advantage of
these new opportunities. Let's talk.

Three Haitian Actors at the Golden Globe Awards

"This year, Heroes, starring Jimmy Jean-Louis as a hero named “The Haitian” was nominated for a Golden Globe Award"

On January 15th 2007, three Haitian actors arrived at the Golden Globes, Haitian Actors Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes, Phat Girlz), Claudine Oriol (Miami Vice, Pluie D'espoir) and Jean-Pierre Vertus (When Will I Be Loved, Nora’s Hair Salon II).

Heroes, starring Jimmy Jean-Louis as a hero named “The Haitian” was nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for a Golden Globe Award for "best television drama”, Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura), another hero in the series was nominated for Best Supporting Actor on a TV Series.

Who knows, perhaps Jimmy Jean-Louis will be nominated for a Golden Globe next time, after all, “The Haitian” speaks now!

I am not in these actors’ shoes to understand how great if feels to be a part of this grandiose Hollywood party with all the who's whos of Hollywood but I have a feeling that it must have felt pretty danm good.

After all, the broadcast of the Golden Globe Awards generally ranks as the third most-watched awards show each year, behind only the Oscars and Grammys.

LUIS POSADA CARRILES

Luis Posada Carriles

An FBI informant, who is a key witnesss against alleged terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, discovered a pipe bomb attached to the bottom of his pick up truck in Hialeah, Florida.

Hialeah police and Miami Dade bomb squad officers shut down the area and detonaed the bomb.

Cuba says US must charge militant for terrorism

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters): Cuba said on Monday the United States should indict Luis Posada Carriles, a militant anti-Castro exile accused in the bombing of a Cuban airliner, for terrorism instead of minor immigration charges.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry accused the US government of protecting the former CIA operative from extradition to Venezuela to face charges of masterminding the bombing of a Cuban airliner in 1976.

A US grand jury in El Paso, Texas, last week indicted Posada, 78, on seven immigration charges including one count of naturalisation fraud and six counts of making false statements while seeking US citizenship after he entered the country illegally in 2005.

"The US government knows well, and has all the proof, about the innumerable acts of terrorism committed by Posada Carriles," the statement published by Granma, the ruling Communist Party's newspaper, said.

Havana said it hoped the immigration indictment will not become a "smoke screen to grant him impunity for the serious crime of terrorism."

The indictment may assure that Posada, who has been held without charges since May 2005, stays in custody. A federal judge had set a February deadline for his release unless legal action was taken.

Posada, who was trained by the CIA as an explosives expert in the early 1960s, has been a political hot potato for the Bush administration because US foes Cuba and Venezuela consider him a terrorist for his suspected involvement in the airline bombing that killed 73 people.

They have sought to have him returned for trial but the United States has refused.

Cuba says Posada also planned bomb blasts in Havana hotels that killed an Italian tourist in 1997 and plotted to blow up Cuban President Fidel Castro during a regional summit in Panama in 2000.

Many Cuban-Americans, an important US voting bloc, consider Posada a hero for his anti-Castro efforts and have urged the United States to let him go.

The US government has fought attempts to release Posada but stopped short of formally calling him a terrorist, which would allow him to be held indefinitely. Seven countries have refused US requests to take Posada in.

The US indictment charges that Posada told immigration authorities he came into the United States overland with the help of a human smuggler when in fact he was brought in on a boat by Miami-based anti-Castro activists.

A month before his arrest in Miami, Castro said Posada had been smuggled into the United States on the motorboat Santrina owned by Miami exile Santiago Alvarez, who received a four-year prison sentence in November after pleading guilty in a Florida federal court to one charge of illegal weapons possession.

"The government of the United States has had to admit that our Commander in Chief was right," the Cuban statement said.

Cuba keeps lid on details
of Castro's health.

by Anthony Boadle

HAVANA, Cuba (Reuters): The latest rumor whispered on the crumbling streets of Havana is that ailing leader Fidel Castro cannot appear in public because he lost his hair - and his famous beard - to chemotherapy for cancer.

Cubans searching for reasons for the almost six-month public absence of the 80-year-old revolutionary can only speculate about what's wrong with him, for lack of official word. They do not know what he has or even where he is being treated.

Cuba's communist leadership has kept water-tight secrecy around Castro's health crisis and told Cubans nothing other than reiterations that the "comandante" is recovering slowly and will be back.

There have been no leaks from Castro's inner circle and his doctors have reportedly been sequestered since his emergency surgery in late July.

A Spanish newspaper report on Tuesday that Castro is in "very serious" condition due to infection following three failed surgeries on his large intestine has gone unreported in Cuba's state-controlled media.

El Pais, citing sources at the same Madrid hospital where a surgeon who examined Castro in December works, said he suffered from diverticulitis, or inflamed bulge in the intestine, and not terminal cancer, as US officials have speculated.

Castro's close ally Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, speaking in Ecuador, denied the report the Cuban leader's condition was serious, but said his recovery from surgery was slow and had risks.

Cuban officials decline to comment on news reports from abroad, the only source of information about Castro for the few Cubans who have access to Internet or get to watch Miami television stations on illegal satellite dishes.

Cubans, whether they support Castro or not, are worried about their country's future in the vacuum he will leave. Some are angry they are not being told the full story.

"It is not right that we have to learn about his health through a foreign newspaper, but it has always been that way," said Dalia, a student hitching a ride to Havana's university. "The press here says nothing."

"Cubans think Fidel is immortal. The thought of him dying frightens us," said Rafael, a self-employed odd-job man who, like most Cubans interviewed, declined to give his full name. "There is no information. That's why there is so much gossip."

US THREAT

Since the emergency surgery that forced him to relinquish power to his brother Raul on July 31, Castro has issued only five messages to the nation, the last a New Year greeting in which he said his recovery was "far from being a lost battle."

The last time Cubans saw him was in an video clip released on Oct 28 showing a frail Castro walking with difficulty.

Castro has justified the dearth of news about his health saying "bad news" would only help his longtime ideological enemy, the US government, which has stepped up pressure for political change in Cuba.

"Given the specific situation facing Cuba and the plans designed by the Empire, the information about my health condition becomes a state secret that cannot be continuously disseminated," he said in a message to Cubans on Aug 1.

Castro, who claims there have been 600 plots by the CIA and exiled foes to assassinate him, has always been secretive about his movements, and his private life is a taboo subject in the Cuban media.

Foreign diplomats in Havana say the secrecy surrounding his health crisis serves to gain time for the consolidation of his brother's leadership and the survival of Cuba's one-party state when he is gone.

"It also keeps adversaries in doubt," said a European diplomat. "They want to disclose information on their own terms, making it fit their plans."

Asked about earlier assertions that Castro was dying of cancer, one US official declined to comment on what is known about his condition within the Bush administration. But he said evidence of the physical wasting was clear.

"His condition plainly is serious indeed. That hasn't changed," the official who spoke on condition of anonymity said.

ON CASTRO

HUGO CHAVEZ

"Some people want to kill Fidel Castro before his time," Chavez said, alluding to the El Pais report, "but in any case, we all have to die sometime."

Regardless, he added, "Fidel Castro has already made history" and become an immortal like Venezuelan founding father Antonio Jose de Sucre, who was killed at 35 "but, continues to live in the mind, the soul, the spirit and the heart of the people of Latin America."

« Men msye aprann ke mwen se kiye bwa mwen pa pè chalè ». To the Editor:

In echoing a 2004 Mother Jones piece, your 1/29/06 article found support for some of disgruntled ex-Ambassador Dean Curran's false charges only among a few Haitians, most of them former associates of President Aristide. All have obvious motivation to impugn IRI's work and none presented any evidence to back their accusations. You also neglected to mention that Curran's predecessors and successors in Haiti praised IRI's programs; you even cropped Curran's predecessor (appointed by President Clinton) out of a photo with IRI officials. You neglected to mention that Colin Powell contradicted a basic tenet of your story when he told you he didn't accept your view that he differed with his Assistant Secretaries over Haiti policy.

IRI is not the reason Aristide had to flee Haiti . If Haiti 's democracy had advanced under Aristide, no one would have been happier than IRI and our Haitian employees. Instead, as then-Secretary Powell said, Aristide was "a man who was democratically elected, but he did not democratically govern, or govern well. And he has to bear a large burden, if not the major burden, for what has happened."

Etats-Unis – Irak
RFI

DON CARLOS

Amantes perdidos at viento

En esta noche estrellada
entran los rayos de luna
por la ventana iluminando
nuestros ansiados cuerpos

quisiera amarte,darte mi cuerpo
arrastrarme por tus palabras
y beberme tus silencios
robarte esta noche loca de deseos

deslizarme por tu cuerpo
y matar tus miedos..

llevarte a limites inimaginables
de placer..locura..deseo

que sientas solo nuestros
mas intimos besos
robarle minutos al tiempo
ser amantes..sentir nuestros
cuerpos oliendo a sexo
despues de amarnos..locamente

darme a ti y sentirte
toda mia entregada a esto
que los dos sentimos y
llevamos dentro..pero te
quiero sin miedos..sin dudas

asi te deseo....y espero
el momento..liarme en tus
sabanas,liarme en tus brazos
liarme en tu cuerpo

KREYOL PALE

KREYOL KONPRANN

pa Kal Fonbren

BON. E POU MWEN FINI ZANMI KREYOL MWEN YO.- Pwòvèb la pou jodi-an:”Bourik pa jam ranni douvan zèb.” Mwen renmen jounalis, kronikè ak tout lot sele-bride kape travay pou lespri moun konprann bèl bagay. Si gen yon ekriven mwen te renmen anpil se Tennessee Williams, yon pakèt entelektyel blan meriken, gason makomè,mwen te kontre 2 fwa vil La Havann peyi Kiba nan lanne 50 yo. Lè sa-a pat gen konputè men anpil liv Tennessee te deja parèt.

Hemingway fè anpil pou peyi Kiba ak relasyon li-yo. Li recevwa Duk ak dushès de Windsor (ancien wa peyi Langletè)nan ti-bar la Floridita vil La Havann-lan.

Gen 2 kote yo te ka jwenn li chak swa, sete bar La Floridita-an ak La Bodeguita del Medio.

La Bodeguita-an te koumanse kon yon ti boutik nan katie-an. Yo te vand diri, suk,ak lot prodwi alimantè. Pwoprietè yo sete fanmi Matinez-la. Yo te gen yon ti kontwa-bar andan boutik-la kote yo deside sèvi klian yo rhum ak byiè. Bar la vin populè. Bar Boutik la vin devlope kon yon rende-vou pou ekriven,atis-pent, ak aktè. Intelektwèl kiben yo ki tap bwè grog ak Enès nan bar la Floridita-an,  mennen–li nan la Bodeguita, e sa vin yon tradysion ak msye. Li tap voye moute tou le swa nan La Floridita ak La Bodeguita. Sete 2 katyie general li yo.

Gen moun ki di Enès Hemingway te renmen kilti kubenn lan men li pat renmen yo endividuelman. Lè gouvènman Batista bali pli gran meday dekorasyion peyi-an, li aksepte-li men li pa te renmen diktatu. Lè li recevwa pri Nobel Literati lanne 1954 se pèp kiben-an li bay li. Li te gen anpil zanmi nan pati kominis peyi Lespay. Lè Fidel te nan Sierra Maestra-an li te koute Radio Rebelde red. Lè revolusionè-yo vin kashe yon pil zam nan bato-li ki te rele “Pilar”, li fèmen je-li e li pa jam denonse-yo. Lè Batista kouri sove yo mande Hemingway e li menm sa-li tap fè? Li deklare li te kwè nan necesite istorik revolysion kibenn-lan, e li te kontan Fidel te pran pouvwa-an.

MEZANMI, se la map rete pou jodi-an. Ti-Marie ki travay pou mwen di li pap boule avè-mwen nan bagay peyi Kiba sa-a. Ti-Marie se yon kapitalis kow red. Alos mwen blije ape voye moute pou kont mwen. Na pale denmen, si GRANMÈT la vle.
